When they scare you

When they scare you,
about the path you're on,
and how,
your chosen milestones,
will take forever to achieve,
if you,
strive in manner,
exactly as they perceive,
still,
you may never reach,
that star you lust.

What gives strength,
to their ideas; the ideas,
which soon,
become your own,
the ideas penetrate,
very deeply,
in to your dreams, your thoughts,
your imagination, your brain,
and soon,
you experience an excruciating,
and hitherto inexistent source of pain.

So much so that your espoused path,
seems suddenly, very unfriendly, scary,
it feels
threatening, and uninviting,
you slow your run, to a sprint and a jog,
then,
a dragging walk,
a heartless crawl,
finally,
you begin ascertaining,
the faults of it all.

If the goals are already blurry,
defeat has been conceded,
you are,
quickly retreating, your back toward the sun, in an inexplicable hurry,
and  the retreat, is surer than, the attack ever was.
go now,
find a new goal, the attack was an act,
the passion; a pretence,
you see,
that goal was never,
ever, your own.
